Compost Site

The positive synergy within Northway Mushrooms Ltd as a producer organisation drives the members to share knowledge and better the farms within the group. With this strive for improvement, it was felt that action was required to improve on farm yield and guaranteed consistent supply. Therefore, the group decided to build their own Mushroom Substrate facility.

This business venture has allowed the organisation to shorten the supply chain, a particular benefit with Brexit and the Covid pandemic, and furthermore has provided the group a solid foundation to continue to grow.

The Mushroom Substrate Facility build was completed in 2019, with the first bale of straw being broke in 20th February 2019

Remaining under the Northway Mushrooms company name, the Mushroom Substrate Facility, is the first ‘phase three’ substrate site of its kind in the UK and second globally.

It was designed and built by GTL Europe and houses their state-of-the-art composting equipment.

The site consistently produces approximately 1100 tonnes of high-quality mushroom substrate each week, supplying both White and Brown mushroom farms.
